Race forms are expectantly piling up and I need to have the nerve to sign up or jog on. So with that in mind I went to see what life without headphones and lengthy runs was like out there.

An ill wind
I was warming down, pushing hard against a big tree at the end of my road.
I was trying to force my calves back into shape and make it look - to my neighbours at least - like I knew what I was doing. All of a sudden, an elderly man who was walking past, stopped and addressed me...Now of course I couldn't hear what he said - because I'm a social retard. So I stopped the music (which in a surprising turn of events happened to be the Spin Doctors) apologised and asked him to repeat himself. He looked at me deadpan and in a thick Irish brogue said; "You don't think you're going to push that over now, do you?" ...A good 12
Started early - horrendous weather.
As windy as I have ever run in along the seafront - Marcel Marceau pace.
